Acoustic Guitars Buying Guide

Hi folks, welcome back. Do you have a plan to buy a new or used acoustic guitar? If so then I know how you feel. Purchasing a right guitar is not an easy thing to do, especially for a beginner. You can find cheap guitars easily but to find a cheap and reasonably good one is a different story.

To help you overcome this nightmare here are some useful tips:

-    Decide what your budget is. Don’t waste time looking for other guitars you can’t afford

-    Patience needed. Don’t purchase the first one you see, compare with other guitars from the same budget range.

-    If possible have an experienced friend to visit the guitar stores with you, ask him to pick some acoustic guitars for you but you are the one who takes the final decision.

-    Playability: One guitar can’t serve everybody. If it just feels ‘right’ in your hand then it’s probably made for you. Test it; you are the one spending money so make sure you are completely satisfied.

-    Appearance can fool you. You should choose one that has good playability, not just a good looking one. Don’t kill your enthusiasm by picking a guitar that is hard to play.

-    Inspect the one you are interested in for any damages or poor finishing.

-    Always look for acoustic guitars with good solid top.

-    Check the tonal quality. Play loud fret by fret and listen to the buzzing sound if any.

-    Can you get a beginner package?  Find one that meets all the criteria above. In addition to the guitar you may have the case and strap as well.

-    Can you get discounted price instead of paying the price listed on the headstock?

Expensive acoustic guitars are not recommended for beginner guitar players mainly because they are pricey. It will be a waste of money if you don’t have the determination and enthusiasm to play or practice. In my opinion beginners should start with the less expensive ones, in condition that they meet the criteria above.

Don’t overlook used guitars. Buying a well maintained used guitar can save your money because it is not as expensive as the new one, and in my opinion the sound of aged guitars are better than the new ones, provided they are treated properly.
