Basic Guitar Chords Chart
Good day and welcome back to the Beginner Guitar Lessons blog. As promised earlier I provide you here some basic guitar chords chart to study and practice. If you use Google to search ‘guitar chords chart’ it will tell you how many pages related to this keyword, at the time I’m writing this post the number is 7,610,000 sites. Some will tell you they have over 1,000 chords chart, but you don’t really need to learn them all.
As a beginner I normally used the major and minor chords only, plus some dominant 7th here and there. Believe me, there are a lot of songs written based on these simple chords. You won’t be playing jazz music anyway during your early stage of your guitar journey. Once you have a good understanding on these chords then you can add your ammunition with more complicated chords and their ‘weird’ names.
OK, here is the chart:
From the guitar chords chart above you can see that Bm and Cm are derived from Am form. If you shift Am two frets closer to you, the chord now is Bm. Shifting by one more fret will form Cm. The same thing happens with other chords such as Em. Shift it by one fret and you will have Fm, and so on. So, basically what you need to do is learn these basic forms, practice and memorize them. Once you master these chords you can continue with other chords family because these basic chords are the roots of other type of chords.
Most of them are quite easy to practice, i.e. the A, D and E chords but you will find that F and Bm or Cm chords are not that easy because you have to bar press the fretboard using your whole index finger, not only the tip. Make sure your index finger does not mute the strings. In the beginning it won’t give you the clear tones you want to hear but after a couple of days trying you should see some improvement. Don’t give up, this is the hardest part of fretting, once you pass it the rest will be easier. We will talk about how to play guitar chords soon.
The best way to start with if you have no idea about chords is by choosing and focusing on the basic chords only. Learn the smart way to master your fretboard here.
To Your Guitar Success,
