Learn to Play Guitar – Some Useful Tips
Good Day! I hope this post finds you OK.
How long have you been practicing guitar? Here are some tips that can help you stay focused and achieve your goal faster:
- Working your fingers 30 min/day is better than doing it at 3 hrs twice a week
- A good teacher can give you advices and correct you if you are doing it wrongly, something that online guitar tutorials or guitar books can’t do
- There is no need to rush: Most of beginners are tempted to play fast licks and try hard to imitate them. You may get the speed but the notes won’t be played correctly. Let your fingers memorize the notes first at slower tempo and once you get them right you can increase the speed
- Uncomfortable pain on your fingers or shoulders is a sign of bad posture
- When you learn to play guitar don’t let difficulties stop you. If you feel you can’t do it after trying so many times then it’s time to give yourself a break
- Mastering the tempo is a must. Some people neglect it but believe me you have to get it right from the beginning. Buy a metronome and start practicing at slow speed. You can also search for the metronome software, some of them are free to use online. Some paid guitar courses also include this metronome in the package
- Tempo is set by the movement of your strumming hand. Some beginners concentrate more on their fretting fingers. Whilst this is normal for the very first time you should not neglect the strumming hand.
- There are too many chords to learn. Learn to play guitar chords started from the most basic ones: C, F, G, Em, Am, Dm, A, D and E. Amongst these chords the toughest one is F but once you master it your guitar journey will be much easier
- If you feel you got stuck with the songs you are currently practicing, try something different
- Learn to play guitar scales can improve your fretting fingers movement. You may start from the simple pentatonic scale
- Enjoy it. Playing guitar is supposed to be fun!
To Your Guitar Success,
